The South Orange- Maplewood Adult School presents Who Are the Nabis, and Why Don’t I Know These Amazing Artists? December 8 at 7 p.m., Columbia Black Box Theater, 17 Parker Avenue. Janet Mandel, award-winning teacher and art- historian, will be lecturing on The Nabis – a group of artists whose spiritual, emotional and aesthetic inspiration came from Paul Gauguin and the Symbolist poets. Although they are not as famous as the Impressionists and Post Impressionists, their work was just as innovative and original. Pre- registration is required. Arts Shop! will feature original artwork by local and regional artists. The exhibition will be open December 9 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. as well as December 10, 14, 17 and 18. Many of the artists will be present during the exhibition to meet the public and answer questions about their artwork, which will include paintings, photographs, sculptures, prints, ceramics, jewelry, note cards, drawings and more. All artwork for this exhibit is affordably priced for giving and collecting. A preview for Friends of 1978 will be held on December 8 from 7 to 9 p.m. Friends will receive a 10 percent discount on sales that night as a way of thanking them for their support.
