feature story / 27 Scouting camp in Newton, NJ – and a ticket to Savannah to QuestFest, a three-day festival at the birthplace of Girl Scouting. One thousand Girl Scouts trekked through the streets on a scavenger hunt-style adventure. Using an app, Scouts found clues downloaded the maps of downtown to help them un- derstand the hints. Submit- ting a photo proof of a land- mark or a video earned them points. Along the way, they learned about the very steps that founder Juliette Gordon Low walked and where she first started the Girl Scouts. The McCourt family turned the event into their summer vacation, staying in the area for a week. “I had a lot of fun,” said Charlotte, “and got to learn the history of Savannah, and make new friends.” She enjoyed many new tasty treats, including shish kabob, a bear claw, Leopold’s ice cream, peanut butter and jelly chicken wings, and – her favorite – a baked apple pie and cheese sandwich. The family took in iconic films such as King Kong at the historic Lucas Theater and a Ghost Tour one evening, which Above: News outlets across the country interviewed Charlotte as her tally increased.
