feature story / 35 MIX, MINGLE AND HELP A STUDENT: Columbia High School Scholarship Fund Cocktail Party Fundraiser Saturday, September 9, 7-10 p.m. Maplewood Tennis Club Tickets on sale at chssf.org W AYS TO HELP The Columbia High School Scholarship Fund, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, raises money through fundraisers at CHS and at an annual cocktail party. Besides single donations, individuals and families can also name an an- nual scholarship in honor of a loved one or create an endowed scholarship which awards money in perpetuity. That’s exactly what the Maplewood Woman’s Club did last spring with the proceeds from the sale of their clubhouse. “They didn’t want to get into the scholarship business,” ex- plains Casey, who notes that the Woman’s Club was an annual donor to the CHSSF for many years. “They knew us and believed that we had the processes in place to professionally handle such a large and generous gift.” Tugentman also encourages residents to consider a one-time donation in honor of a special birthday or anniversary.
