Miller Oys- terfest, in partnership with the Town- ship of Maplewood, will be held on September 16 at The Woodland, 60 Woodland Road, Maplewood from 1 p.m. - 9 p.m. This event is designed to raise funds for cancer research and aware- ness and to provide finan- cial support for families facing a crisis. The event also celebrates Bob Miller, a longtime Maplewood resident who lost his battle with melanoma in 2014. Bob and his wife Grace were raising their four girls in Maplewood when he was diagnosed with melanoma, the most deadly form of skin cancer. Mela- noma is on the rise but it is curable if detected early. Dermatologists will be on site for complimentary melanoma screenings. The objective is to provide as many on-site screenings as possible. The Oysterfest will be a fun-filled day with live bands, including Brian Kirk & the Jirks, back by popular demand; food and beverage trucks; sweets and treats; whiskey tastings; and fun activi- ties for kids of all ages.
