She would often pick me up from school and serve me a piece of her freshly baked pu de l, or Portuguese sponge cake that she made from scratch. It contains a lot of eggs, so it's very rich. Even today, it's still my favorite cake. Now that I'm grown, I like to make this cake in her honor, updated with some orange and lemon zest."
