The Township of Maplewood will present a free concert featuring The United States Army Field Band and Soldiers’ Chorus in the Memorial Park Amphitheater September 2 at 6 p.m. The band features more than 90 musi- cians and vocalists; the combined en- semble will perform a program which includes patriotic favorites, popular songs and a selection of classical works. The Concert Band is the oldest and largest of the Field Band’s four per- forming entities. This elite 65-member instrumental ensemble, founded in 1946, has performed in all 50 states and 25 foreign countries for audiences totaling more than 100 million. The Soldiers’ Chorus, founded in 1957, is a 29-member mixed choral ensemble that travels throughout the nation and abroad performing separately and in joint concerts with the Concert Band. Student musicians from Columbia High School have been invited to ap- pear along with the Concert Band dur- ing a portion of the performance. Per- formances by these highly sought after musicians are cause for celebration and serve as a tribute to members of the Armed Services past and present.
